As you leave the magnificent amphitheater of the Piazza del Campo by the street called Costerella dei Barbieri, turn back for a sensational view of the Tower. You will then come out into the Via di Città, one of Sienna's main streets.
At number 89 you will find the Palazzo Chigi-Saracini, a medieval building that was reconstructed in the second half of the 18th century and again between 1914 and 1922, this time in the neo-Gothic style.
There are two orders of Gothic triforium windows and, once again, you can see the distinctive bichromatic stone work, the white travertine contrasting with the red bricks.
The interior is greatly restored and has been remade in a medieval style.
Today the Palazzo houses the headquarters of the celebrated Accademia Musicale Chigiana which is justly famous for its classical music studies. Inside there are some sumptuously furnished rooms with a gallery of medieval and baroque paintings and sculptures.
